Mellan Panoptikon och Synoptikon : En undersökning som visar hur maktskiften sker till följd av "New Media" genom övervakning

This essays main interest lies with the surveillance within “new media". The aim has been to analyse how today’s society has gone from being surveilled by CCTV and the governments different agencies, to watch and surveil each other through “new media”, especially through different social medias. The new technology has made this possible, but who has the most power in this new technological society?The essay is based on research and theories about surveillance and media, with the main concept of power throughout the essay. The methodology being used is a narrative method and its main focus is to find themes in the material being analysed. We also chose to use the critical discourse analyse as a theory in this method, to be able to put the analysis in a social perspective. The empirical material being used is three fiction movies with a dystopian genre, and four articles about surveillance in today’s society.The analysis shows that control and surveillance occur through different types of power, something that the society and its habitants themself have created, through the usage of “new media”. The narrative results also indicate that we, through the power structures of the governments, have gone from being watched, to becoming the watchers, synopticon.
